"Pharaoh's Chariot Horses" is an American traditional design that comes from biblical times when horses were seen as a symbol of wealth, status, warfare and power. John Frederick Herring, the artist, was a member of an artistic family who specialized in sporting and animal subject matter. First painted and exhibited in 1848, "Pharaoh's Chariot Horses" alluded to their ancient and noble heritage. The work is a three head study of the gray Arabian stallion, Imaum, originally owned by Queen Victoria and later owned by the artist, J.F. Herring. Originally titled "Pharaoh's Chariot Horses", this was a very highly sought after and hard to locate piece of art. The 20 by 16 inch print, copyright by LM Johnson of Chicago, is in a 27 by 22 inch vintage, wooden scrollwork frame. Attesting to its age, there is minor cosmetic damage to the frame and print. Item must be picked up at CET or ThinkTV. Shipping is not available.
